Mayor of London
Creating an Easy Read information booklet and a fillable Easy Read survey for the Mayor of London’s ‘Towards A New London Plan’
How we created an Easy Read information and fillable survey documents
Easy Read workshops
GLA staff worked closely with IC Works experts by experience in one of our famous co-production workshops to establish:
Accessible language for ‘Towards A New London Plan’ - important because the Mayor of London wanted feedback from all Londoners about plans to build thousands of new homes over the next ten years and beyond.
Accessible images for Towards A New London Plan - from the outset, the workshop members were clear that photographs of housing developments buildings and landmarks should be included.
A fillable Easy Read Survey
The Easy Read survey was provided as a fillable PDF to ensure it was easy for anyone to give feedback on ‘Towards A New London Plan’.
Accessible surveys are a crucial part of Easy Read consultation documents.
The survey included 10 questions, two for each of the five sections, including ‘Different types of homes’, focusing on accessible homes and homes for people with support needs.
Each of the five sections is the same colour as the sections in the Easy Read Information Pack to make it easier for readers to link content with the questions in each section.
An Easy Read Information Pack
The information pack was colour-coded to make ‘Towards A New London Plan’ easy for readers to navigate.
In addition to making the text easy to understand, a lot of time was spent sourcing images from stock libraries, the TfL image library, GLA images, and photos taken by GLA staff.
Because the document was about new London homes, shops, and buildings, we included images of mixed-tenure and mixed-use developments, as well as atypical landmarks such as the London Stadium.
We also worked with Yoursymbols to create some unique accessible images of the London Green Belt and Gypsy and Traveller accommodation.
