IC Works Hits Norwich! A Field Trip to Opening Doors’ Happy, Healthy, Safe Day

Last Wednesday, 17 June 2026, Team IC Works set out on an exciting field trip to Norwich for Opening Doors ‘Happy, Healthy, Safe Day’ held at The Forum in Norwich City Centre.

The event brought together a wide array of local organisations, including the NHS, the Fire and Rescue Service, local charities supporting people with a learning disability, and various advocacy groups.

For the team - which included Rupa (accompanied by her mum, Kiran), Shaun, Matthew, and Ian - the day was a fantastic opportunity to engage with the community and share experiences.

The team travelled from across the country, arriving from Hexham, Rotherham, and London to meet up in the heart of Norwich.

Connecting with Local Advocacy

A highlight of the day was meeting the team from About With Friends, a Cromer-based group that has supported its local community for nearly 25 years.

The team also had the pleasure of connecting with the Norfolk Advocacy Partnership and Able2B, an organisation dedicated to helping people of all abilities stay as active as possible.

Staying Safe Online

The team also participated in an interactive online safety session led by IC Works' own Carl Bygrave. During the workshop, everyone put their digital skills to the test by creating their own passwords using provided pictures and forms.

The session included some insightful and quirky videos created by the team about online "stranger danger" and the practical benefits of using QR codes.

It was a high-spirited session - with Rupa even jokingly drawing inspiration from her World Cup enthusiasm when including "England" and "Gold" in her password!

A Perfect Finish

Following the event, the team enjoyed some well-earned downtime with Carl at a local café, followed by a stroll through the sunlit city to the station.

The day ended on a high note for many. After a long journey, Ian made it just in time to catch England’s first World Cup match of the tournament, celebrating a 4-2 victory - a perfect conclusion to a very enjoyable day out.

While the journey home involved a few logistical challenges - including a lengthy six-hour trip (both ways!) for Matthew - the consensus was clear: it was a day well spent.
